SC/NSPRA Presents 193 Awards for Excellence in Communications

The South Carolina Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association celebrated the effectiveness of 193 communications programs and projects from across the state at its annual Rewards for Excellence awards ceremony on May 13, 2025, in Columbia. The program honors outstanding communications and public relations efforts by South Carolina schools, school districts, and educational agencies and associations. Public relations professionals with deep experience in education and business communications evaluated a total of 394 entries.

The Rewards for Excellence program features three awards categories:

• Medallion Awards recognize comprehensive, strategic public relations programs;

• Golden Achievement Awards honor a single project or an aspect of a broader communications initiative;

• Publications and Electronic Media Awards celebrate individual products designed to inform, engage, and connect with school stakeholders.

In addition to the project-based awards, SC/NSPRA also recognized two outstanding individuals for their contributions to school communication.

• Dr. Harrison Goodwin, Superintendent of Kershaw County School District, was named the 2025 SC/NSPRA Administrator of the Year.

• Andy Pruitt, Director of Communications for Charleston County School District, was honored as the 2025 SC/NSPRA Communicator of the Year.

This year’s Rewards for Excellence program was organized by Tim Cooper, Marketing Specialist for York School District 1 and past SC/NSPRA Chapter President, who served as the 2025 Rewards for Excellence Committee Chair.

SC/NSPRA is the South Carolina affiliate of the National School Public Relations Association. With more than 130 members—including school public relations practitioners, superintendents, and educational leaders from across the state—the organization is dedicated to strengthening the role of communication in public education. SC/NSPRA promotes professional development, supports best practices in school communication, and fosters strong relationships between schools and the communities they serve.
