Andy Pruitt Named 2025 Communicator of the Year
Pruitt received the honor in a surprise presentation attended by members of CCSD’s Communications Department. The award was presented by SCNSPRA President Julie Putnam and President-Elect Toni Chewning.
Each year, SCNSPRA recognizes one outstanding school communications professional who exemplifies leadership, integrity, and excellence in the field of school public relations. The Communicator of the Year Award is the chapter’s highest individual honor.
“Andy is the steady voice and strategic mind behind so much of what the Charleston County community hears, sees, and understands about its schools,” said Putnam during the announcement. “Whether he’s managing a crisis, mentoring colleagues, or telling the story of a student success, Andy leads with clarity, compassion, and professionalism.”
As Director of Communications, Pruitt oversees CCSD’s media relations, crisis response, storytelling efforts, and districtwide messaging. His work supports transparency and trust across diverse audiences and has helped strengthen public confidence in Charleston County’s schools.
“Andy's dedication goes beyond just sharing information—he builds trust,” wrote Michelle Mills, CCSD’s Associate of Communication, in a letter supporting his nomination. “He approaches his work with integrity, making sure every message is thoughtful and meaningful. His ability to communicate in a way that connects with different audiences, from parents to community leaders, makes a positive difference in our district.”
Pruitt is also an active SCNSPRA board member, contributing to professional growth and support for school communicators statewide.
SCNSPRA is honored to recognize Andy Pruitt as the 2025 Communicator of the Year and thanks him for his continued leadership, professionalism, and dedication to the mission of public education.
